Japanese Gyoza Dumplings Recipe

Gyoza is a popular Japanese pan-fried and steamed dumpling. This dish can be served as an appetiser or as a main course. These dumplings are wrapped in a thin layer of dough and filled with a delicious mixture of ground pork, cabbage, green onions, and spices. The dumplings are cooked until the bottoms are crispy and the tops are tender.

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, cornstarch, and black pepper.
  • Combine thoroughly.
  • Fill each gyoza wrapper with 1 tablespoon of the filling.
  • Wet the wrapper's edge and fold it in half to create a half-moon shape.
  • To seal, press the edges firmly together.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden brown, before adding the dumplings.
  • Cover the skillet with 1 cup of water.
  • Cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the dumplings are done and the water has evaporated.
  • Serve immediately with soy sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.
